This house in Gomer, Ohio needed a full roof replacement - everything had to go. We started with a complete tear-off, got down to clean decking, and built it back up the right way from scratch. No shortcuts, no patching over old material.

For the pitched sections, we went with Owens Corning TruDefinition Duration shingles in Slatestone Grey. This is a dimensional shingle - meaning it has real depth and texture to it, not the flat, lifeless look you get from a basic 3-tab. The color variation in the grey tones gives the roof a sharp, high-end look that holds up well against a white exterior like this one.

The flat section of the roof was a separate challenge. Flat roofs can't use standard shingles - water just sits there. We handled that section with new grey rolled roofing, which is the right material for that application. It lays smooth, seals tight, and matches the grey shingle palette cleanly so the whole roof looks like one cohesive system.

One thing we always make sure to do before any shingles go down is proper underlayment. We used RhinoRoof U20 synthetic underlayment across the pitched areas. It gives the roof a solid moisture barrier beneath the shingles and holds up much better than old felt paper during and after installation. It's the kind of detail that most homeowners never see but makes a real difference in how the finished roof performs long-term.

The end result speaks for itself. Clean lines across every pitch, a smooth flat section that ties it all together, and a color choice that genuinely upgrades the look of the home. This is what a proper roof replacement looks like when every step gets done right.
